The Special Committee on Oceanographic Research (SCOR) has endorsed an international cooperative program of oceanographic research and survey work in the Indian Ocean for the near future. 1961 is the year most often referred to. Although a number of features of the plans must necessarily be made on a high international executive level, it also seems desirable that oceanographers on a working level - who actually think they might be interested or involved in the work at sea - should exchange ideas and suggestions, and make tentative plans of just what they would like to try to do in the Indian Ocean. For this purpose, THE INDIAN OCEAN BUBBLE has been established, as an informal journal for exchanging views and ideas.

Multidecadal Indian Ocean variability linked to the Pacific and implications for preconditioning Indian Ocean dipole events Ummenhofer, Caroline C.; Biastoch, Arne; Böning, Claus W. (American Meteorological Society, 2017-02-15)The Indian Ocean has sustained robust surface warming in recent decades, but the role of multidecadal variability remains unclear. Using ocean model hindcasts, characteristics of low-frequency Indian Ocean temperature ...
Intraseasonal rainfall variability in the Bay of Bengal during the Summer Monsoon : coupling with the ocean and modulation by the Indian Ocean Dipole Jongaramrungruang, Siraput; Seo, Hyodae; Ummenhofer, Caroline C. (John Wiley & Sons, 2017-01-24)The Indian Summer Monsoon rainfall exhibits pronounced intraseasonal variability in the Bay of Bengal (BoB). This study examines the intraseasonal rainfall variability with foci on the coupling with sea surface temperatures ...
Evolution of anthropogenic Pb and Pb isotopes in the deep North Atlantic Ocean and the Indian Ocean Lee, Jong-Mi (Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, 2013-06)Pb and Pb isotopes in the ocean have varied on decadal to centennial time scales due to anthropogenic Pb inputs. Thus, tracing the temporal variation of Pb and Pb isotopes in the ocean provides information on the major ...
