This white paper proposes a framework for offshore wind energy
research in the United States, a framework that establishes
the relationships, data, and systems-level thinking needed to
advance the global offshore wind industry. As the nation enters
a market that has matured substantially in Europe and is
growing quickly in Asia, a well-coordinated, reliably funded
approach to research can help secure our stewardship of
its natural resources and strengthen our competitiveness
in the global market. Successful large-scale research
initiatives in infrastructure, ocean science, and
manufacturing provide examples for how the nation can
mobilize its research community to help set the longterm
vision for an affordable and sustainable market
in offshore wind.

Navigation and manipulation for autonomous underwater dismantling of offshore structures
Welch, Christian L. (Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, 2015-09)The dismantling of offshore structures, known as decommissioning, is a complex task in the oil and gas industry, driven by strict environmental standards. As the environments in which decommissioning is necessary become ... -
Multichannel maximum entropy method of spectral analysis applied to offshore structures
Briggs, Michael Jeffrey (Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, 1981-06)The multichannel Maximum Entropy Method (MEM) of spectral analysis is developed and applied in the dynamic analysis of offshore structures. Two different algorithms are implemented and compared with the conventional ... -
Structural evaluation of fixed offshore platforms
Vandiver, J. Kim (Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, 1975-01)In fixed offshore structures, damage incurred below the waterline is often difficult to detect, but significant enough to be the source of a subsequent massive failure. A technique is described that can be used to detect ...
