    Environmental conditions in the field during each paired naupliar grazing and community grazing dilution experiment. Copepod nauplii can be a dominant component of the microzooplankton, and are present year-round in subtropical ecosystems. However, little is known about species-level differences in grazing rates and trophic impacts across the naupliar assemblage. Our goals were to measure ingestion by two species of mid-stage (N3-N4) copepod nauplii in a subtropical embayment, evaluate species’ differences in prey preferences, and estimate the trophic impact of naupliar grazing by each species.     Overview of community microzooplankton dilution experiments, and Chl-based growth and mortality rates. All experimental water taken from Kaneohe South Bay station and processed on shore within 2 hours of collection on the collection date. Samples for Chl a (fluorometric) filtered and frozen within 5 h of collection, after storage in dark bottles in a cooler. All rate data are adjusted for pigment photoadaptation during the incubation, using red fluorescence from parallel flow cytometry samples (see text for details). *March 2012 chlorophyll data are conservative estimates: most chlorophyll had degraded to phaeopigments when fluorometrically analyzed, so the values represent the sum of Chl a and phaeopigment.     This dataset includes eukaryotic phytoplankton flow cytometric results from salp grazing incubations in order to quantify food web flows through contrasting salp-dominated and salp-absent water parcels near the Chatham Rise off western New Zealand where salp blooms are a predictable phenomenon. Sampling was conducted on R/V Tangaroa (cruise TAN1810) during October-November 2018.
