    Photoquadrat surveys of coral lesions at two sites on the backreef of Cook’s Bay in Moorea, French Polynesia from May through July 2012

    4 central corals were chosen at two sites on the backreef on either side of Cook’s Bay in Moorea, French Polynesia. At each central coral, 4 transects were run in the cardinal directions, and 10 random locations photographed along the transect using a camera mounted to a .25m2 quadrat. Technicians then circled all scars in the photographs, and recorded the summary statistics presented in this dataset.     Effect of distance between coral lesions on tissue regeneration and skeletal growth at two sites on the backreef on either side of Cook’s Bay in Moorea, French Polynesia from May, 2012 through July, 2012

    Experimental corals were artificially damaged using a waterpik with lesion centroids separated by 1.2cm, 3.5cm, and 6cm (or no damage for the control), and buoyantly weighed. After 20 and 39 days, corals were re-weighed to determine buoyant mass and skeletal growth. Coral lesions were also photographed and images analyzed to assess the % of lesion with regenerated tissue.     Experimental corals were artificially damaged using a waterpik with lesion centroids separated by 1.2cm and 3.5cm, and then dyed with Alizarin S. After 1 year, corals were bisectioned, photographed and linear extension measured using Image J at each polyp’s growth lines.     Coral growth and morphology based on snail presence from experiments in Moorea, French Polynesia from May, 2013 through May, 2014

    12 corals were selected with Coralliophila violacea. A random snail was selected, and a similar location identified on the coral for comparison. At each location, a 20cm by 20cm plexiglass plate was placed against the coral, and 20 randomly selected depth measurements taken. The variance of those measurements is reported. A nail was then hammered into the coral at each location, and the length recorded. After 1 year, the corals were revisited, and the measurements repeated to calculate change in nail length (coral linear extension) and change in morphology (change in variance of depth measurements).
