The bulk of this report consists of abstracts from projects defined by the students while taking the Shore Component in Woods Hole with emphasis on standardization of long-term studies of S.E.A. staff scientists and associated researchers.

This compilation of data in one place can serve as a guide for future Westward cruises, as a data base for interpretation of results by scientists ashore, and as a teaching reference in the shore component of the Sea Semester program. The report presents an overview of cruise W-43 with some preliminary interpretation of results. We conducted an array of individual projects, many of them focused on the study of island mass effects, and this report provides space to see how our diverse interests meshed.
