DatasetPool-seq data from wild populations of copepods in the Baltic Sea from May 2018 through August 2019(Biological and Chemical Oceanography Data Management Office (BCO-DMO). Contact: bco-dmo-data@whoi.edu, 2022-09-08) Lee, Carol E. ; Stern, David B.This dataset represents data from wild populations of E. affinis. Copepod populations were collected from eight locations in the Baltic Sea using bongo and WP2 nets with 100 μm mesh and stored in RNAlater. Sampling locations spanned a range of mean annual salinities from low (~3 PSU) to higher salinity (~19 PSU). Individual copepods (ranging from 50 to 200 in number) were pooled and their DNA was extracted. Paired-end whole-genome sequencing libraries were prepared using the Illumina Nextera DNA kit (Illumina, Inc.) and sequenced on five lanes of an Illumina HiSeq 4000 sequencer, generating an average of approximately 176 million paired-end (100 bp) reads per pool. These genomic data have been deposited in NCBI under BioProject number PRJNA844002. For a complete list of measurements, refer to the full dataset description in the supplemental file 'Dataset_description.pdf'. DatasetPool-seq data from laboratory selection lines of copepods collected from Kiel Canal in Germany in 2017 and 2018(Biological and Chemical Oceanography Data Management Office (BCO-DMO). Contact: bco-dmo-data@whoi.edu, 2022-09-08) Lee, Carol E. ; Stern, David B.This dataset represents pool-seq data from laboratory selection lines of E. affinis collected from Kiel Canal in Kiel, Germany (latitude = 54° 19' 59.88"N, longitude = 10° 9' 0"W) in 2017 (approximately 1000 copepods) and on May 30, 2018 (85 gravid females and 40 juveniles). DatasetEvolutionary and acclimatory shifts in gene expression of Eurytemora affinis copepods reared in saline and freshwater conditions during laboratory experiments from 2011-2014(Biological and Chemical Oceanography Data Management Office (BCO-DMO). Contact: bco-dmo-data@whoi.edu, 2022-11-12) Posavi, Marijan ; Lee, Carol E.To explore mechanisms of freshwater adaptation and distinguish between adaptive (evolutionary) and acclimatory (plastic) responses to salinity change, we examined genome‐wide patterns of gene expression between ancestral saline and derived freshwater populations of the Eurytemora affinis species complex, reared under two different common‐garden conditions (0 vs. 15 PSU). These data include the RNA-seq Illumina short paired end reads (101 base pairs) of 10 freshwater and 12 saline copepods Eurytemora affinis samples. The freshwater copepod samples were collected in Lake Michigan (Racine Harbor), while the saline copepods were collected in Baie de L'Isle Verte, St. Lawrence marsh, Quebec, Canada. These data have important implications for our understanding of the evolutionary and physiological mechanisms of range expansions by some of the most widespread invaders in aquatic habitats. DatasetPooled sequencing data of field-collected Eurytemora affinis copepods from nine locations in North America collected October 2012 to March 2014(Biological and Chemical Oceanography Data Management Office (BCO-DMO). Contact: bco-dmo-data@whoi.edu, 2022-11-14) Stern, David B. ; Lee, Carol E.This dataset consists of pooled whole-genome sequencing data (Pool-seq) of Eurytemora affinis complex copepods collected from nine locations across North America. Each sample consists of 100 pooled individuals with an approximate 1:1 sex ratio, sequenced using the Nextera DNA library preparation kit and Illumina HiSeq platform. Population sampling targeted nine wild populations of the E. affinis complex from two genetically distinct lineages (the Gulf and Atlantic clades) including both native saline and invaded freshwater locations. The data were generated to investigate evolutionary genomic factors underlying successful invasion of freshwater habitats and were collected by Drs. Martin Bontrager, David B. Stern, and Carol E. Lee of the University of Wisconsin-Madison. For a complete list of measurements, refer to the full dataset description in the supplemental file 'Dataset_description.pdf'.
