Following a Fe co-precipitation, rare earth elements were separated from the remaining major and trace elements on Eichrom TRU-spec resin. Neodymium was subsequently separated from the other REE using alpha-hydroxyisobutyric acid (a-HIBA) and cation resin. Neodymium isotopes were measured at Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory on a Micromass Sector 54-30 thermal ionisation mass spectrometer by dynamic multicollection. Samples were measured as NdO+ loaded with Si gel, using a 146Nd/144Nd of 0.7219 to correct for mass fractionation. Replications of 5 to 35 ng La Jolla Nd standards over the course of the sample analyses gave an average of 0.511850 ± 0.000016 (2 sigma external standard deviation; n = 13). Except for two samples (see Table 2) internal 2 sigma standard errors of individual runs were smaller than the external error. All reported 143Nd/144Nd ratios were normalized to a nominal value for the La Jolla Nd standard of 0.511858. Epsilon Nd was calculated using a CHUR of 0.512638 [Jacobsen and Wasserburg, 1980].
